The Story

A passionate journey through music and the old world craft of piano restoration.

Prosper Pianos was founded in the fall of 2018 through a friendship forged in music and a love of all things piano. We are a locally owned business that supports inclusivity and creates a space for all to come and experience the beauty of acoustic instruments.

"Isaac Namias, who sells restored acoustic pianos in Brooklyn, said email inquiries shot up when the virus hit New York. Under lockdown, he said, he sold nearly twice as many units per month as during normal times, mostly instruments in the lower price range, about $2,500 to $6,500. About half his business was driven by piano teachers referring students. Notably absent from the client list were professional performing pianists. Mr. Namias said, 'They want to touch the piano, they know exactly what they're looking for.'"

Isaac Namias

Owner

After graduating from Indiana University, where I studied Jazz Pedagogy at the Jacob School of Music under the late iconic David Baker, I moved to New York to pursue my passion: playing and studying piano in the mecca of music.

Soon after, I began apprenticing with master craftsman Brian Whiton at Big Wrench Piano Care. I worked closely with him and other technicians to learn how to rebuild and tune pianos. I then had the opportunity to work for the legendary Steinway & Sons company, where I learned more about piano rebuilding from a tradition of multigenerational artisans, and did piano sales and consulting.

As a pianist, piano teacher, and piano tuner, I wanted to create an outlet in Brooklyn for those who are seeking risk-free, reliable, and beautiful pianos.

Prosper Pianos is the culmination of a lifelong dream and love affair with music. The company is named after my father, Prosper Namias, who changed the course of my life when he bought the family a piano. I’m now proud to be a part of that process for others.
